Hi,
I've been to Italy several times. If it is just a short visit, then I would definetely say Venice. It's a must see. However, if you are planning to stay longer, then consider Verona (cheaper option, comfotable location to other places) or some very nice little towns along lake Garda (especially in summer time - you can swim in the lake, take boat tours, biking, nightlife, etc. If you are staying longer in North Italy you must see Lake Garda, Venice, Milan, Cinque Terre. Hope it helps.

I'd recommend Venice if it's your first trip as it is a must-see place. There a lot to see such as St Mark's Square, Basilica di San Marco and a lot of tiny streets to walk. Check here: https://tripplannera.com/italy-venice-trip-planner

How long are you planning to stay?
As you would get bored in Venice after 2-3 days. I'd recoomend you to visit both cities as they are not to mig and you can cover them just in a couple of days.

If you are at least a small fan of history, art and culture then Verona, Firenza, Roma, Venice, San Marino (not exactly Italy city, but anyway) and Padova are 'must visit' for your first trip (ofc, if you are able to visit them all in one turn).

In addition, if you like sea then I can point that Rimini has weary nice (and big) beach, but if you are more snow and skying person then I must point Folgarida-Marileva (in the north) as a decent ski resort.

Venice!!!

I visited Rome, Florence, Pisa and Venice when I was in Italy.

I didn't like Rome, quite enjoyed Florence and Pisa, but LOVED Venice!
